How to Keep Your Home Safe This Holiday Season

The holidays are a time for celebrating with family. The last thing we want to do is worry about our homes. These tips will help keep your home secure this holiday season.

Get Your Locks Checked or Replaced

Even the strongest locks can develop issues over time and with constant use. Cold weather can also damage the internal mechanics of a lock. It is a good idea to have your home’s locks inspected as the seasons change. A professional can identify problems and replace parts so your home is better protected. Proper lubrication will also keep your locks working well through the winter months.

Hide Your Packages

Everyone loves a pile of wrapped presents around a beautifully decorated tree. But it can also be an invitation to intruders. If your tree is visible from a window, it can make your home a target. Keep gifts out of view from outside, especially when you are going to be away.

Don’t Post Your Travel Plans

It can be tempting to post about your upcoming trip, but it isn’t a great idea. If you post where you are going and when you are leaving and returning, intruders can use that to decide when to strike. Share your vacation pictures after you are safely back home.

The exception: tell your neighbors you are traveling so they can keep an eye on your home and grab any packages that are delivered. Unattended packages are an invitation for trouble.

Keeping your home safe this holiday season is our priority too. If we can help with your locks, contact us anytime. For alarm monitoring and cameras, we refer customers to PASS Fire & Security.
